Berne is in the centre and is the capital of Switzerland. We managed to get a parking for 3 hours along Sulgeneckstrasse close to American Embassy. We're not able to secure a local map of Berne. We had a list of places we want to visit but couldn't figure out how to get there. We were blindly walking without a map and just relying on where most of the people were heading to.
Highlights:
Taken from the garden, overlooking Bundeshaus. |
Kleine Schanze (Little Red Out) Garden - It's funny 'coz we had been looking for Kleine Schanze since we got out of the car using GPS while walking... I guessed GPS is not too friendly if you are walking and if streets around you are mostly 'one way', as it always expects us to go the long way taking in consideration those 'one-way streets' as if we're riding a car. We gave up eventually. But when we returned to our car... We realized that we had been there in the garden and in fact it's our first stop after parking the car. The garden has a restaurant, said to be open up to 12 midnight if the weather is good

View of Bundesplatz, looking north |
Bundesplatz – the plaza in the Old City of Berne... One of the main attraction is the Bundeshaus (the Swiss government and parliament building) with its popular fountain.
Historisches Museum - our Swiss Flexi pass allowed us to enter free in any museum around Switzerland. One of the section inside was the Einstein Museum. We dropped by and learned facts about the life of Albert Einstein. Hey! 'Was surprised to see how good looking Einstein was in his younger years J. It was also interesting to know that he actually have a daughter, Liesrl. But unfortunately, he was not able to see her face. Pre-marital pregnancy was a disgrace at that time. All the trace of her daughter was gone, the moment her mother left her at Hungary after birth before going back to Berne .
Dalmaziquai - we went back to the car park and inserted additional coins after the visit to Historiches Museum to extend the parking limit for our rented car. We walked down towards the Aare River at the end of Dalmaziquai. A picturesque view was waiting for us... it's really worth a visit if you're dropping by at Berne.
